bengaluru power cut
Frequent Outages
Many Bengaluru residents are complaining about regular power cuts lasting hours.
Some say outages happen multiple times a day, especially during hot weather.
According to users, even light rain or small infrastructure issues (like transformer faults) are triggering cuts.
Maintenance / Infrastructure Upgrades
In some cases, BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company) is doing maintenance or upgrading lines. For example: power disruption was reported on July 12 across several Bengaluru zones due to work on a 66 kV line.
These upgrades are supposed to improve reliability in the long run, but in the short term, they cause planned or semi-planned cuts.
Poor Communication & Customer Service
Many residents feel BESCOM’s helpline (1912) doesn’t work properly or is constantly busy.
According to some, complaints don’t always lead to quick resolutions.
There are also accusations that communication about maintenance isn’t proactive — residents find out about cuts only when power goes off.
Load Shedding/Myth of Load Shedding
Some users speculate that the power cuts are a form of load shedding (intentional power shutdown) because demand is too high, especially in summer when AC usage spikes.
Others think it's more about infrastructure weakness (transformers, lines) rather than deliberate load shedding.
Local Power Meter / Non-Payment Issues
In certain cases, electricity to street lights or even residential areas is being cut because of unpaid dues.
Some residents are being told to install separate meters just for street lighting.
💡 What Residents Are Doing (or Suggesting)
Register Complaints via BESCOM App: People recommend using the BESCOM app instead of calling the helpline, as it's supposedly more reliable.
Use Inverters / UPS: Many households are installing inverters or UPS systems so that power cuts don’t disrupt work-from-home, elevators, or appliances.
Social Media / Community Pressure: Residents often post on Reddit / local forums to highlight recurring issues. If many people complain, BESCOM may respond faster.
Check for Scheduled Maintenance: Sometimes, power cuts are due to planned maintenance — if you know it's coming, you can plan accordingly (charge devices, backup, etc.).
⚠️ Risks & Downsides
Damage to Electronics: Repeated power fluctuations or sudden cuts can damage appliances, especially sensitive ones.
Health & Comfort: In summers, power cuts can be dangerous — fans or ACs go off, and the heat can become unbearable.
Work Disruption: For people working from home, such cuts are a huge productivity killer.
Safety Issues: In residential buildings, sudden cuts can affect lifts, lights, and other critical infrastructure
