On the mountain state vote: reading political landscapes through geography
Marwah, D., & Alam, A. (2025), ‘Edges of the Nation: Party System Divergence and Political Representation in Mountain India’, Studies in Indian Politics. doi.org/10.1177/23210230251374814
When studying the political history of a country, how much does its geography come into play? India hosts mountains, valleys with river systems, deserts, and islands; ascribing the same analytical lenses to this variety might not always be productive. Research and political work in India tends to overlook the differences brought out by geography, as most such conclusions rely on electoral data taken from India’s densely populated plains.
