What’s Happening: Tejas at Dubai Airshow 2025

Indian Participation

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed its Tejas LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) to the Dubai Airshow 2025.

The contingent also includes the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT), underscoring not just combat potential but also India’s showmanship in aerial display.

According to IAF/ANI, the Tejas will be showcased in both static and aerial displays.

Strategic Export Push

India aims to utilize the show to promote the Tejas as a modern 4.5-generation multi-role fighter to potential export customers, particularly in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

The Tejas Mk 1A variant being displayed is pitched with capabilities like beyond visual range (BVR) missiles, precision-guided bombs, and relatively low operating costs.

Performance Highlights

In its aerial display, the Tejas reportedly performed high-manoeuvre aerobatics, proving its agility and digital fly-by-wire control system.

There’s also a focus on demonstrating Tejas’ effectiveness in warm-weather / desert conditions, which is relevant for Gulf markets.

Defense Diplomacy Impact

The IAF’s presence — with Tejas + Suryakiran — is part of India’s broader defense-diplomacy outreach with the UAE.

It’s a signal to potential buyers/partners that India’s aerospace manufacturing is maturing, especially in “Make in India” defense platforms.

Controversy / Tech Issues

There are social-media reports that a Tejas Mk 1A parked on the tarmac was “dripping fluid,” leading to some criticism.

Some experts argue this might not be a major oil leak — but possibly condensation from environmental control systems, given hot/humid conditions.

Regardless, such incidents could raise questions for export customers, so it’s something to watch.

Why This Is Significant

Export Ambitions: Tejas is one of India’s most promising defense exports. Showing it off in Dubai (Gulf region) is very strategic because Gulf nations often buy combat aircraft.

Brand Strengthening: For HAL / ADA, a strong performance helps build credibility for Tejas on the international stage.

Defense Partnerships: India could deepen cooperation with aerospace players in the Middle East — possible joint production, maintenance, or arms deals.

Technical Validation: Operating in a hot-desert climate (like the UAE) tests Tejas’ real-world readiness for export customers in similar geographies.

Risks / Challenges

Technical mishaps (or perceived ones) can hurt export credibility.

Competing jets: Tejas is up against many proven fighters in the export market; it needs more than acrobatics — it needs business deals.

Lifecycle cost will matter: Operating cost, maintenance, and local support will influence buyer decisions.

Export control / geopolitical risk: Selling a fighter jet involves not just economics but diplomacy & export regulation.
