pune cold wave
Temperatures Dropping
Some parts of Pune (rural / outskirts) have recorded single-digit minimum temperatures recently.
In the Pune district’s Haveli region, the temperature dropped to 9.7 °C, the first sub-10°C reading of the season.
In the city, Pashan dropped to ~9.8°C.
Shivajinagar recorded around 10.6°C recently.
Reason for the Chill
The IMD (India Meteorological Department) says it's because of clear skies + dry north-westerly winds, which are allowing strong radiational cooling at night.
Humidity is low, which helps night temperatures fall more.
Alerts Issued
IMD has issued a cold-wave alert for “isolated pockets” of Pune district.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also taken notice: they issued advisories to hospitals to be ready for cold-related health issues.
Daytime Temperatures
Daytime highs are also a bit lower than usual in some parts: Pashan saw a day high around 27.4°C recently.
Clear skies at night + cold winds = cooler nights, but days can still feel warm-ish in sun.
⚠️ What This Means for Residents
Nights are much colder than normal, especially in certain areas → wear warm clothes, use blankets.
Because IMD has put out alerts, people should be cautious about health — risk of cold-related issues can increase, especially for vulnerable groups.
If you're out early morning or late night, be ready for a sharp drop in temperature.
It’s a good time to make sure your home is “winter-ready” (blankets, heaters, etc.), especially for those who feel cold easily.
