026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup — Venues, Knockout Games & Host Cities
🏟 Tournament Overview
The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), with matches held in India and Sri Lanka.
Dates: 7 February to 8 March 2026.
20 teams are expected to participate, playing across group stage → Super Eights → Knockouts.
📍 Key Venues in India for the Knockouts
The Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad) is widely expected to host the Final.
Eden Gardens (Kolkata) has been shortlisted as a lead venue for the semifinals and other prominent knockout-stage matches.
Overall, five Indian cities have been shortlisted: Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai.
Three Sri Lankan venues will also be used. Friendly to logistical and political considerations, especially in relation to matches involving Pakistan.
🧭 Important Venue/Match Conditions
There’s a conditional clause: If the Pakistan national cricket team or the Sri Lanka national cricket team reach certain knockout stages (semi/final), the specific match might be held in Colombo (Sri Lanka) rather than India.
Venue selection reflects capacity, infrastructure, and experience hosting major ICC events. Ahmedabad has hosted previous finals and large crowd events.
✅ Why This Matters
For fans and teams, knowing potential venues helps with travel plans, ticketing, logistics, and anticipation of atmosphere.
These venues—particularly Ahmedabad and Kolkata—have a strong cricketing legacy and capacity to host high-stakes matches.
The exclusion or inclusion of certain cities sends a signal about where Indian cricket sees its marquee events being held going forward.
